i love starbucks.
yes, i know you already knew that.
when i was in college, i appreciated the coffee, and the good place to spread out latin homework.
since college, it was a great way to start off in the morning...as long as i left early enough, a particularly important point as thrifty pennsylvanians learned to splurge on coffee, causing the morning queue to grow longer and longer...(i am one of the fortunate few, with a starbucks about nine suburban blocks from my house, making either a nice walk or a short drive)
after awhile, a starbucks arrived at my exit in lancaster, and i changed my habit to a late afternoon starbucks...it was amazing how the tensions of the day began to melt away once i had that steaming cup in my hand.
at first, i had fun using up all the spare change floating around my car as no matter what the drink, it always seemed to end with a need for seven cents. a great way to use up all those pennies. then, i did use up those pennies, so eventually, i decided to start loading a gift card, though i never managed to register the card with starbucks when i was at home.
anyway...today, tragedy struck and i lost my newly reloaded card and only realized it three hours after the fact. i went through my purse at least four times since the partially clear card tends to blend in with the lining of my purse. alas, after the fourth search, it was clearly nowhere to be found. i gathered the shreds of my dignity about me and when back to the local store (where i had uncharacteristically stopped tonight instead of the lancaster store) and explained, that yes, i had foolishly failed to register my card, but that i thought i had left it at the store earlier in the evening. they looked around, but didn't find it. the manager went back through their sales receipts, but was having trouble locating the card number, so suggested i call 800-starbucks. i shrugged and reminded her (again) that i had foolishly not registered my card. she was adamant that it was worth a try and hinted broadly that she thought i would have success. so, i got back in my car and made the call. i was on hold for about 4 mins, and then put through to a cheerfully competent customer service representative who asked me a few simple questions, then, announced that a research team would look into it shortly...that the team would get back to me either tomorrow or monday (only if there was a problem. i.e. someone continuing to use my card)...and otherwise, i could expect a reissued gift card sometime in the next 10 days. oh callooh!!! callay!!! if i weren't a loyal starbucks addict before, i certainly am now.
that being said, peoples...make it easier on yourself (and your dignity) and register your card immediately at www.starbucks.com:-)
