News from the Near Abroad

Though much has happened in the nation during the past too weeks, it has been a very short two weeks on THE related news, despite the fact that I have seen most of the people mentioned in my last column since its posting.

Congratulations are in order...

For Miss Dench, who was recently advised to submit her senior project for publication! She was very amused because since her graduation, her program has ceased to exist. This could make for some very ironic About the Author reading:-P

Kudos to the ArmedProphet, who we understand recently joined the editorial board for his law school review!!!

New Jobs

The Dictatrix Ivana has taken a job at THE in the Accounting Department. Hopefully this will provide some stability there as well as someone who actually understands THE's culture;-) She is still looking for a place, so drop me an email if you hear of any availabilities.

Pauldin Boy also recently began a job as a teacher in Fairfax, so they will be in the area for at least the next year. The Rumor Mill is contradictory, our correspondent having heard from different sources that he is teaching either technology or Latin. [What it is about our set? We seem to either end up in education or law. Except for those of us who don't, of course.]

That being said, Ms. March has accepted a job with the American Enterprise and in her spare time, is making sure that Rules Committee publications follow Strunk and White to the letter:-P

Burning the Midnight Oil...

THE must have been good preparation for something because not only is WOOsh developing a reputation for studying too much, but he is finding plenty of time to run for Class President, and, by all reports, turning into a social butterfly. [In fact, he is having so much fun down there, La Presidenta is having to call up all sorts of dire threats to coerce him into attending THE's October meeting.)

The Raven has been tapping on EAPoe's window, as we understand that not only is he spending a lot of time with classes at his internship, but also staying up to all hours learning about church administration such as for church budget meetings
(I thought Congress was the only entity that operated like that!)

Also hitting the books is CovenantSon in preparation for his four classes, which he has back to back to back. Challenges? He has ended up with one all girls class, where they don't seem to enjoy class participation. He says he has been trying to be nice and show them that he isn't a dictator...yet, that is:-P

Miscellaneous...

While we all thought that NOVA was THE area for wacky cellphone coverage, we understand that the Fieldings are having major issues with the cellphone carrier. If you can't get through to them, yell at Verizon.

THE's New Face...
If you have seen the new ad campaign for THE, you will notice that Machiavelli is THE's new poster dictator...speaking of, the Prince and his wife are expecting. Wouldn't this make a great baby gift from our philosophy class?

Meanwhile, Miss Rice has been working on THE event of the year, and has approved a site for Friday night's reception. She has assured us that it won't start before 7:30, allow we poor working folk plenty of time to get there without taking time off from work.

While honor code reform has been on the political horizon at THE for two years, the failure of students to approve an honor code last year means that it continues to dominate student politics. Although initially the Prime Minister and his government intended to push for last year's reform proposal in a new referendum, our correspondent has been informed that further studies must be implemented before a comprehensive reform process can be instituted. In the meantime, the Government is trying to promote a more serious attitude towards the current honor code by sponsoring a signing ceremonies, speeches, and a PR campaign to encourage current students to take the concept of honor seriously. In traditional THE reaction, while this has been positively received by most students, we understand that the Loyal Opposition is alive and well and contemplating a counter-movement.
[How did we ever have the time for this?]

In other changes at THE, the dining commons is now charging students an additional fee for take out boxes, which has caused local home appliance store sales to go through the roof. Our correspondent also understands that dress code, movie standards, and curfew are actually being enforced [housing now being equipped with smart keys], while chapel attendance is now being monitored, cracking down on serial offenders.

Also at THE, mysterious gold statues have suddenly appeared in conspicuous places around campus. While most of the population admired the new sculpture garden, political opponents are alleging that the "Alumni Council" was bought off by the "administration." Selling down river such chief goals such as free mailings, teeshirts, admission to events and the right to spend money for circle drag racing, for what really glitters.
